SSI CS8800 a High Performer at 2015 FHWA Reference Profiler Evaluation

SSI’s CS8800 walking profiler was one of several pre-approved devices participating in the U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) “Evaluation of Potential Pavement Profile Reference Devices.” The study is the most recent chapter in longstanding research to improve the quality of pavement profile measurement and qualify reference profiling devices as a qualified tool for certifying inertial profiling systems. The research was conducted in September 2015 at the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s MnRoad facility in Albertville, Minnesota.

SSI participated with several configurations of the CS8800, including standard and experimental. Highlights of the results achieved by the CS8800 are presented in the table below. The CS8800 achieved high performance the IRI, long and medium wavebands of interest. The short waveband remains a challenge for all participating devices and is a focus of ongoing research and development.  Check back for a link to the full report on the FHWA research once it is released.
