SSI Inertial Profilers Perform at a High Level in FHWA Research at MnRoad
The U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) conducted an “Evaluation of Inertial Profilers” at the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s MnRoad research facility in Albertville, Minnesota.
The purpose of the study is to provide information about the capabilities of existing inertial profilers on six different pavement types (asphalt and concrete). Fifteen different inertial profilers participated, including two SSI high speed systems with wide beam Gocator laser sensors. Overall the SSI devices performed at the highest level for both repeatability and accuracy. The table below shows the results from the SSI devices: 98% on same surface repeatability (92% required) and 95% on accuracy vs a benchmark profiling device (90% required). The final report will include profiler performance in the wavebands of interest for pavement profile evaluation. Check back here for a link to the final report, which is anticipated in early 2017.
