Dirt Surface Characteristics

 

Overview

SSI’s profiling equipment can be tuned to characterize the passable roughness condition of dirt surfaces, including such as pavement subgrades, off-road, or trail surfaces. Topography measurements of dirt surfaces are also supported by SSI’s mobile surveying systems.

 

Roughness Condition

SSI has a customized configuration of its inertial profiling system that can output RMS (root mean squared) roughness in addition to standard ride and roughness outputs. Measurements are possible on trails and very harsh terrain surfaces—example: military tank trails.

 

Terrain & Topography

The survey profile systems produced by SSI can be configured. 

 

Applicable Specifications

There are no widely followed standards for classifying the roughness or topography of dirt surfaces. Design criteria are often specified for preparing or constructing dirt surfaces.
