2D Survey & 3D Topography
SSI’s inertial profilers can be equipped to generate 2D or 3D surface data for road design and machine control applications. Build a 2D surface with multiple profile tracks reported with the cross-slopes. Dense 3D topography measurements are generated by SSI’s GeoProfiler devices, which use a patented process to combine inertial profile data with slope sensors and data from conventional land surveying instruments. CAD formatted (e.g. PNEZD, PLLHD) data is generated for design and machine control applications.
Patented Combined Inertial Profiler, Slope & Survey Data
SSI patented a sophisticated technology to build a dense 3D topography of road surfaces by adding higher resolution inertial measurements to data from survey instruments. The vehicle mounted survey-profile instrumentation from SSI combines point-to-point measurements from an inertial profiler with tactical grade slope sensors and survey equipment (RTK GPS or total stations). A patented process is used to combine the various data sets into a surface topography having more and better resolution than survey instruments alone can produce.
Application: Pavement Design
SSI GeoProfilers allow faster collections of 2D cross-sectional data or 3D topographies as compared to conventional survey equipment. Calibrate, collect and build the surface using the onboard Toughbook computer. Output the data into formats such as 2DSurvey, PNEZD, PLLHD or GPGGA for use with third-party CAD or design software.
Application: Machine Control
The post-processed 2D cross-sectional data or 3D topographies generated by SSI GeoProfilers can be used in third party applications to control pavers or other construction equipment.
