Using a combination of SSI’s unmatched pavement feature measurement and precision GPS, SSI has developed a unique technology enabling on-screen navigate along pavement profile traces with accuracy down to 2-3 inches (0.05 meters). This supports GPS tagging of exact physical locations on the surface and marking of such features as areas of localized roughness. Or use the CS7900 real time GPS tool to visualize areas for corrective work on board mills or grinders without pre-marking the pavement. Some of the central features of SSI’s real time GPS navigation are:  

  • Navigate to areas of localized roughness using real time GPS overlay on SSI Profiler 3 Trace View or Google Maps
  • Use SSI supplied portable GPS module in any vehicle or on any machine
  • Connect GPS to any computer running SSI Profiler 3 and use GPS to work with previously collected profile data
  • Navigate to defects using a smartphone, network capable device or survey instrument
  • Configurable settings to display projected grind locations, trace amplitude values, and distance between grinds
  • Trace display options support efficient navigation throughout pavement areas to be corrected
  • Zoom and pan functionality for flexibility in viewing profile trace, localized roughness and grind simulation details
  • Recommended machine head height adjustments displayed

 

Figure 5 is an example of the real time GPS display (green line near station 157+00) on a detailed dual track profile trace with recommended areas for corrective grinding shaded.
